AFPI is committed to using media literacy standards, general literacy standards, and sustainable education standards to develop innovative, problem-centered curricula for lifelong learners. By focusing on personal enrichment, our programs will help individuals gain the skills and knowledge they need to navigate the changes arising from global sustainability initiatives.
If we understand culture as a unified, yet diverse, biophysical system, we can see that it embodies a worldview where nature and culture are interconnected and inseparable.
Nature and culture are made of mass and energy. Mass can be converted into energy (light), and energy can be converted into mass. Therefore, environmental justice isn’t only about energy, it is also about mass and matter too.
The fundamental atoms that comprise molecular structures in the body are identical to the atoms of nutrient cycles on Earth that generate new life. These principles can be extended to our material culture, and activating knowledge in local communities can unearth them.
AFPI boosts community development outcomes by helping students plan impactful research questions with measurable community effects. Students develop cultural adaptation prototypes, enhancing their competitiveness for applications to advanced research universities through a clear sense of purpose and direction, which also fosters academic motivation on campus. Community action can also occur beyond academia. AFPI’s lessons can be applied to independent entrepreneurship as well.
